Piscean Dream History

Below is the history of my musical upbringing and how Piscean Dream came to be. I've tried to keep it short and sweet. Thanks for reading.

The Beginning

I've had a deep rooted connection with music ever since my parents would play music (on records back then) and they would teach me to feel the beat of the music. They would clap their hands and stomp their feet and I eventually felt the beat also. Several years later my Mom asked me if I wanted to play an instrument and if I did, what instrument would I want to play. Without much thinking I blurted out "drums"! I started taking drum lessons in fourth grade. I played drums all through high school. It was also in high school that I started taking guitar lessons. My parents bought me my first guitar, later a bass, and then a four-track-recorder. I couldn't of asked for better parents to support my musical musings.

The Building Blocks

During high school my friends and I started a band, we were called "Jacob's Ladder". Don't look for any CD's or music from Jacob's Ladder because the extremely limited live recording CD that we did is sold out, and it sucked (it has some merits though). It was from this learning experience being in a band that a lot of the ground work was laid for the future. We had a blast hanging out and making music but as life marched on we all ended up not being able to hang out as much and make music.

The Mac

Fast forward several years (four to be exact) and my soon-to-be wife and I buy our Apple Power Mac G4 computer. At the time I had only used my Brother's older Mac and it wasn't exactly state-of-the-art. I became enamored with that computer (using mostly Photoshop). Later Apple introduced Garageband. Having let my four-track-recorder gather dust in the basement, I was intrigued to see what Garageband could do. I bought a cheap audio-interface and a cheap condenser microphone. I made some recordings and was startled at how accurately that microphone and computer captured my performances. I sucked! I sucked bad but I hunkered down and started reading about recording techniques, mixing techniques, mastering, room acoustics, and became obsessed over those technical processes. Even though I learned a lot during this time, I hadn't actually written very many songs.

The Christmas That Changed it All

On a whim I asked for a set of drum microphones for Christmas. I didn't even have an audio-interface that could handle enough inputs for a drum set. I got that set of microphones that I wanted from my wife. I wasn't able to use them until almost a year-and-a-half later. I bought a better audio-interface and for the first time in my life I could actually start to piece together what I heard in my head.

The Present

After my lust for the latest and greatest technology I waved Garageband goodbye and started on the learning curve again with Logic Express 7. After finally starting to feel somewhat comfortable with Logic I am now working on writing songs. I have lots of old partially finished material that is getting dusted off and given a renewed sense of life. Most of the songs on this site have been languishing around in my head for years. The wait is finally over. Piscean Dream is my escape where this culmination of my past has brought me. The name Piscean Dream is a mirror of what I want people to be. In other words I want people to daydream, enjoy life, learn from each other, be compassionate, and live a happy life.

The Future

I don't know what the future holds but as long as I am able to make music, that is one thing in life that brings me much joy. Thanks for coming along on this journey!

Enjoy the music,

Adam
